It is miscible with water, ethanol, ether, and carbon tetrachloride, but insoluble in carbon disulfide. It is highly flammable and has corrosive and strong irritant properties, capable of causing burns to the human body. It is highly flammable, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air. It can ignite and explode when exposed to open flames or high heat. Contact with chromic acid, sodium peroxide, nitric acid, or other oxidizing agents poses an explosion hazard.
