At room temperature, zinc sulfate heptahydrate appears as white particles or powder in an orthorhombic crystal form with convergence and is commonly used as an astringent. It will weather in dry air. One molecule of crystalline water is lost when heated to 30℃, six molecules of crystalline water are lost at 100℃, seven molecules of crystalline water are lost at 280℃, and it decomposes into zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide at 767℃. It is soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerin. It should be stored in airtight containers. Zinc sulfate is mainly used as a raw material for the production of zinc barium and other zinc salts, as well as an important auxiliary raw material for the production of viscose fibers and vinylon fibers. It is also used as a mordant in printing and dyeing, preservatives for wood and leather, clarifying and preserving agents for bone glue, emetics, fungicides, and  Trace Element Fertilizer in Agrochemicals And Fertilizers.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

Zinc sulfate is used for the preparation of zinc supplements and astringents. It is used as a mordant in printing and dyeing, a preservative for wood, a bleaching agent in the paper industry, and also used in medicine, artificial fibers, electrolysis, electroplating, pesticides, and the production of zinc salts. Zinc sulfate is a zinc supplement in animal feed, a component of many enzymes, proteins, and ribose in animal bodies, and participates in carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It can also catalyze the mutual conversion of pyruvic acid and lactic acid, promoting growth. Zinc deficiency can cause incomplete keratosis, developmental disorders, poor hair quality, and can affect animal reproductive function.
Zinc sulfate is an allowed food zinc fortifier. In China, it is allowed to be used in table salt with a dosage of 500mg/kg; in infant food, the dosage is 113-318mg/kg; in dairy products, the dosage is 130-250mg/kg; in cereals and their products, the dosage is 80-160mg/kg; in beverages and milk drinks, the dosage is 22.5-44mg/kg.
Zinc sulfate is used as an analytical reagent for drop analysis to measure copper and chlorate. It is used in serum protein tests to measure sulfur content in steel and slag. It is used as a coal dye, disinfectant, and to prepare various culture media in haploid sports. In plant cell culture, it is used as a source of zinc to support the stability of cell membranes and gene regulation. It is mainly used for artificial fiber coagulants. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used as a mordant and an alkali-resistant agent for Vanillin blue salt dyeing. It is a major raw material for the production of inorganic pigments (such as zinc barium white), other zinc salts (such as zinc stearate and basic zinc carbonate) and zinc-containing catalysts. It is used as a preservative for wood and leather, and as a clarifying and preserving agent for bone glue. It is also used as an emetic in the pharmaceutical industry.
Zinc sulfate is used to prevent diseases in fruit tree nurseries, and in the manufacture of cables and zinc micro-fertilizers, among other applications. Food-grade products can be used as nutritional supplements (zinc fortifiers), etc.
